Lulu has been designing handbags since she was 29, starting in 1989. The line definitely has something for everyone. From bold colors, crazy, fun prints, to cross body bags, clutches, makeup bags, wallets, overnight bags and big shopper style handbags, I’m sure there’s one you’ll want to take home with you.
Last week I was roaming the mall for an outfit for a weekend get-away. Though, I didn’t find anything new to pack in my suitcase, I did stumble upon these great bags. You all already know my obsession for great big handbags! I’ve been looking for a big, comfortable, durable every day bag with a nylon outside, like the Dooney and Bourke or Longchamp ones do, but for a fraction of the price. I own a few Dooney and Bourkes and I don’t like to use them for the bustle of my everyday wear and tear, so I wanted something I could basically abuse.
Last week when I walked into JC Penny, which I’m recently obsessed with for their revamped styles and all the new lines they’re carrying (that’s a post for another day), I saw these in the handbag section. I have to admit I didn’t bring one home with me -yet, but I wanted a few! The lulu by Lulu Guinness is the perfect line for every day bags at very affordable prices without looking like they’re cheap. It’s the perfect marriage of style and price. Many times more affordable handbags look cheap, and what woman wants to look cheap? These look stylish and high end, without letting anyone know you saved without sacrificing your style. They have big weekender bags, that can work as both a carry-on for a weekend getaway, an overnight bag for when you’re staying at your man’s pace and just need to carry a quick outfit change, and large enough for a day of shopping, work and errands. To top it off, they have actual carry-on weekend bags to match. I’m
secretly (I guess now not so secretly) lusting over the unconstructed weekender in navy or pink.
According to her website, Lulu’s iconic designs have surpassed the role of mere fashion accessories. The Collectable bags have been described as ‘tomorrow’s treasures’, becoming permanent fixtures in museums worldwide. The Florist Basket is in the permanent fashion collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and has also been exhibited in Sotheby’s London and New York.
Today Lulu still lives by the motto of her hero, the Surrealist artisan and fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli, ‘Dare to Be Different’ and the women who wear Lulu Guinness do just that. I think I’m pretty different, so I am sure in no time a lulu handbag will make its way into my life. I’ll make sure to let you know all about it as soon as it does.
Lulu’s creations are regularly seen on the arms of Helena Bonham Carter, Florence Welch, Katy Perry, Dita von Teese, Alexa Chung and Christina Aguilera, trailblazing women who dare to venture outside the parameters set by a predominantly trend led fashion industry. They are women with a fierce sense of humour and an even fiercer sense of their own femininity.
Now who doesn’t want to be in the company of such fabulous women? I know I wouldn’t mind to. Be fierce, fabulous and fashionable with a lulu by Lulu Guiness handbag.
Have you seen the lulu bags? Do you own one? Or are you lusting for one now?
